Science

hexagonal 2D crystal structure made of soap bubbles, a nice experiment to visualize what close-packed planes of atoms in crystals look like.

Ideas from metal science we can see with this experiment: vacancies, dislocations, and grain boundaries.

Making a buble lattice like this is really easy with a regular bike pump a PET bottle to maintain a stable pressure and some sillicone tube with a tiny hole to make the bubbles.

A simulation of grain growth for a school project. It’s a very simple, inefficient simulation but it works. (Made together with Li, Hsin Tien)

School project for an introduction to nanofabrication, where Nikolaus Baumann and I did some KOH wet etching. The official goal was to make “perfect” pyramids

Anodizing parts of a robot for a school project. The anodizing was done by my brother Maarten Jorna and I.
